Tester Guidelines

Borg Labs testers are an important part of our development process. Testing is a partnership between the development team and the player community, and good communication helps us build better games.

These guidelines explain the expectations for anyone participating in Borg Labs testing programs.

Tester Responsibilities

Testers should:

  • Provide clear and constructive feedback.
  • Report bugs accurately and with enough detail for investigation.
  • Test builds regularly when possible.
  • Follow testing instructions provided by the Borg Labs team.
  • Treat other testers and developers with respect.
  • Report issues even if they seem small or unlikely to be fixed.

Every report helps us understand how players experience the game.

Communication Guidelines

When providing feedback:

  • Explain the problem, not just the frustration.
  • Include examples whenever possible.
  • Avoid vague reports that cannot be investigated.
  • Be respectful when discussing game features or design decisions.

Useful feedback explains:

  • What happened.
  • What you expected to happen.
  • Why it affected your experience.

Example: The inventory screen becomes difficult to use when more than 20 items are collected. Adding sorting options or categories would make finding items easier.

Confidentiality

Borg Labs testing builds may contain unfinished content, experimental features, and information that has not been publicly announced.

Testers must not share:

  • Game builds.
  • Download links.
  • Screenshots.
  • Videos.
  • Game files.
  • Unreleased features.
  • Internal discussions.
  • Testing documentation.

Public sharing of testing content is only allowed when explicitly approved by Borg Labs.

Testing Environment

Testing builds are not final versions of the game.

Testers may encounter:

  • Crashes.
  • Missing content.
  • Placeholder assets.
  • Balance changes.
  • Features being removed or redesigned.

These issues are expected during development and are part of the reason testing exists.

Respecting Other Testers

Testing programs often include players with different experiences and play styles.

Please:

  • Respect different opinions.
  • Avoid dismissing other testers' feedback.
  • Do not intentionally disrupt testing sessions.
  • Help create a positive testing environment.

Different perspectives help us identify problems that may not be obvious to everyone.

Reporting Problems

If something does not work correctly, report it.

Do not assume:

  • Someone else has already reported it.
  • The development team is already aware.
  • The issue is too small to matter.

If an issue affects the player experience, it is worth reporting.

See the Bug Reporting Guide[ISSUE]for information on creating effective reports.

Thank You

Borg Labs appreciates the time and effort testers put into helping improve our games.

Your feedback allows us to find problems earlier, make better decisions, and create better experiences for players.
